Lanín National Park is located south of the province of Neuquén. It was created in 1937 and protects a significant portion of the so-called Andean-Patagonian forest, with areas of Patagonian steppe and high Andes. It covers 4,120 km2 (1,590 sq mi) of surface and has a great variety of fauna and flora.

You can access the National Park from the cities of San Martin de los Andes, Junín de los Andes and Aluminé by car or bus. The nearest airport is Chapelco Airport.
Lanín NP Trails
Lanín NP has 3 walking circuits: North, South and Center
North Circuit (Circuito Norte):
This trail crosses the forrest surrounding the lakes Ñorquinco, Rucachoroi and Quillén.
South Circuit (Circuito Sur):
This trail is located in the Lácar Lake basin, which bathes the coast of San Martín de los Andes. You can go to Quila Quina, Catitre, Arrayanes and Hua Hum.

Center Circuit (Circuito Central):
On this trail is the access point to the Lanín Volcano (3,776 m / 2.34 miles). You can visit the Huechulafuen and Tromen lakes, the Canoa-Paimún port and make the ascent to the Lanín.

The park has more than 20 paths or trails to walk around and wander, with different difficulties, so there are no excuses not to try them. This park is working on a project to make it more accessible for people with reduced mobility. It is very good to see that the Argentine National Parks are working for more inclusive Parks. Nobody should miss our natural wonders.

Lanín National Park´s Biodiversity:
There is a great diversity of flora and fauna in the Lanín National Park. The park has more than 100 species of woody plants, more than 305 herbaceous plants and almost 50 species of shrubs, vines, ferns, fungi and lichens among others. The park has an araucaria forest unique of our national territory.
The residents of this park are more than 165 species of animals including mammals, birds, fish, reptiles and amphibians.
Lanín NP Camping options
The Lanín is a very popular destination for backpackers. It has several campsites centers, which are classified by camping type:
Free camping (Camping libre): open and without any services or infrastructure.
Rural camping (Camping agreste): with basic services such as baths and hot water and some other basic service.
Organized Camping (Camping organizado): is the one that offers more services with toilets, power, stores, restaurantes, tables, children’s games and more.

The park has restaurants, inns, camps, fast food outlets, tea houses and mountain shelters.
